Residual WestConnex Land Returned to Council

For immediate release

24 June 2024

Ismay Reserve on Parramatta Road is about to get bigger! Transport for NSW has handed over care of the 5,500 square meters of residual WestConnex land to Council, which will see more green space available for the community. Plans are underway to install fencing, seating and a walking and cycle path.

Strathfield Mayor, Cr Karen Pensabene said “this new green space is the result of Council’s ongoing commitment to ensuring unused WestConnex land is returned to the community, something we have been campaigning for since 2015. Green space is vital for active living, good mental health and general amenity, and this particular space is much needed for the Homebush area. Council is delighted to bring it to residents.”

Member for Strathfield Mr Jason Yat-Sen Li joined Mayor Pensabene, Cr Matthew Blackmore and Cr Benjamin Cai onsite to celebrate the achievement. Mr Yat-Sen Li stated “I am pleased to have worked with Strathfield Council to deliver this land back into the hands of the community, where it belongs.”

More information and plans will be released as it becomes available on the Strathfield Council website.
